Egyptian Fresh Orange Export Guide: Exceptional Opportunities in Global Markets 2026

2026-05-28 8 min read

Egyptian oranges are among the finest in the world, with Egypt's unique climate producing oranges with balanced acidity, vibrant orange color, and thin skin. Exporting Egyptian oranges represents an exceptional opportunity for international importers in 2026.

Egyptian Orange Varieties & Key Features

Egypt produces world-class orange varieties that compete in quality with Spanish and American varieties. Most famous varieties: Valencia — rich juice, balanced sweet-sour flavor, season extends from February through June, ideal for juice and fresh export. Navel — thick peel easy to peel, large size, ideal for fresh consumption, season from November through January. Baladi — authentic Egyptian variety, strong acidic flavor, demanded in Gulf markets for fresh orange juice. Jaffa — medium size, abundant juice, preferred in Eastern European markets. All varieties are grown in Qanater, Fayoum, and Ismailia regions, GlobalGAP and HACCP certified.

Season, Packaging & Cold Chain

The main export season for Egyptian oranges extends from November through June, with peak production in January and February. Packaging: carton boxes of 5-15 kg, with corrugated paper layers between fruits to prevent bruising. Oranges are packed in ISPM-15 wooden boxes for large shipments. Oranges are shipped in refrigerated (reefer) containers at temperatures of 3-6°C and 90-95% humidity. The cold chain begins directly from the field and continues until the product reaches the importer. Vapor Heat Treatment (VHT) technology is used to treat fruit flies before exporting to European and Asian markets.

Target Markets & Export Opportunities

Egyptian oranges are exported to over 40 countries worldwide. Key markets: Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar (largest Egyptian orange importers in the Gulf, monthly demand exceeds 25,000 tons), Russia and Belarus (important winter market, high demand for Valencia variety), Netherlands and Germany (growing European market that values high quality and certifications), Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (promising Asian market). Annual Egyptian orange export volume is estimated at over 1.5 million tons, with a value exceeding $350 million annually. Net profit margin: 30-45% for fresh oranges, 40-60% for concentrated juice.

Egyptian oranges represent exceptional value in the global fresh fruit market. With their balanced flavor, high quality, and integrated cold chain, your company can offer a product that exceeds expectations. Contact Rowad El Shareq to book your shipment for the next season.
